When I first started playing Pokemon, my first Pokemon was a Wurmple!
I was really little, and followed anime logic of "beating the Pokemon before I threw a ball," so when I figured out how it actually works, I was quite happy to catch my first mon. I love me some Wurmple. :p

The earliest I remember is playing my older brother's copy of Blue, and catching a Dugtrio.

Think it was a random Bidoof or a Starly I called Star and proceeded to sweep Pokemon Pearl with after making it my starter stupid noob 9 year old me accidentally released my Grotle just after first gym I kind of want to do a Staraptor solo run now

In X, a Graveler from a rock that I smashed. Threw either a ultra ball or quick ball and instantly captured it. Good thing too because it knew self destruct. Though technically it was gen 2 Gyrados that was my first shiny, but that is always shiny so I don't count it.

Was probably a Pidgey or Rattata. When I first got LeafGreen I reset the game a lot and never went past Vermilion City because I kept leaving the boat after I beat Blue but before I got the Cut HM, so I have no idea what the first playthrough was like.
My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you're ugly too.

It was probably either a Pidgey or Rattatta, given that there's literally nothing else available on Route 1 in Red/Blue. I first played gen 1 via emulator when I was visiting my cousins' place.
Then, since my parents refused to get me either red/blue and a game boy color as my birthday gift, I decided to save enough money from my weekly allowances to buy BOTH Red & Blue, and then wish for a game boy color as my birthday gift. So, once I turned 8, I got both games + bright green GBC. Being an 8-year-old with absolutely zero English skills, I ended up mostly soloing through Red with my Charizard ='D. I'm pretty sure my starter evolved into Charizard somewhere in Vermilion city... But since I kept running out of PP while trying to beat Elite 4 (and I didn't know how to use ethers) I had to add a haunter to my team... so, by the time I reached Mewtwo, I had a lvl 72 Charizard, lvl 63 Haunter and some random s***mons that I mostly used as shields while healing my REAL fighters XD. Good times!

Yep. In the original Red, the very first Pokemon that I caught in the wild was a Pidgey. I replaced it with a Spearow as soon as I caught that on Route 22, and the Spearow became a mainstay on the team.
Fun note, Gust wasn't a Flying-type move in First Gen, it was Normal-type. Peck offered better coverage against all the bugs of Viridian Forest, so Spearow naturally saw more use on my team, thus replacing Pidgey entirely.

As others have stated, if you started the series with the very first game it was either pidgey or rattata.
Starting team: Bulbasaur, rattata, caterpie, mankey, nidoranmale, pikachu (i got the game with the guide so I knew about the uncommon pokemon in the beginning) I love how in red/blue you can have a well rounded team in the first half hour.

Heck no. My oldest memory of playing Pokemon is that the copy of Diamond my parents had bought me along with my DS Lite was hacked and had all the 493 Pokemon that existed at the time. But I didn't care at all at the time and restarted the game. Thing is, I don't actually know (or rather remember) if I caught anything before erasing the hacked save. If I didn't, then I think my first Pokemon ever caught must have been either Starly or Shinx. If I did...Really, who knows at this point.

yeah caterpie back in red i vividly remember my charmander getting destroyed by brock and my brother telling me to start over and to go catch the caterpillar and make to turn into the butterfly and use that instead

Going for the latter option saves time and allows you to focus more on the main campaign. You can always return to those early routes to fill your pokedex once you've become the champion. Heck, given the amount of wonder trash you can get these days, I try to avoid catching early 'mons because you're bound to get bazillion ratattas, pikipeks and grubbins anyway. At least I have the courtesy of evolving most of those trashmons into their highest forms (or forms that I can achieve without trading), so I usually send out a whole lot of Gyarados', Kadabras, Vikavolts and Toucannons.

Probably either a Pidgey or a Rattata, but I was dumb and didn't know how to actually play RPGs, so I somehow basically soloed the game just having my Charizard Mega Punch everything (and getting wiped a ton in the process)

I know what it should have been, little 11 year-ish old me with a freshly bought Red version on the equally new GameBoy Color from Target. I remember my starter (Bulbasaur), hunting for Pikachu for a few hours, getting my Butterfree hatched, and having Ratata/Pidgey on my team from the get go. But I don't remember which I caught first and that... really makes me feel so aged it's begun to linger. Listening to PMD remixes, typing on GameFAQs, and I worry I'm almost too old for Pokemon.

I hope it was something like a Caterpie over a Ratatta. I actually like Butterfree, opposed to Raticate which has always been something I KO and keep going since Day One.
6 Gens and 20 years later... Raticate has a new coat of paint but same amount of usefulness to me.
