It's hard to decide, for I love both. But what I really liked about the originals oppose to the remakes are the challenges. No abilities to rely on. Very min. concern for IV/EV. TMs were different. The new typing. And 252 pokemon, along with original movesets.

That said, HG/SS is polished and picks up the Suicine story from Crystal. So it's hard for me to decide.

Ah and downside? G/S never got the Battle Tower. Only Crystal did

HGSS is superior in literally every way as far as I'm concerned.

HGSS is better but it really underlines how shoddy the original G/S were.
Minerva says she still feels the Avatar is of this world...
Also that they smell delicious, but that's neither here nor there...

How is this a question? HGSS is absurd superior.
Playing: Sonic Mania; Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight; The Legend of Zelda: BotW; Kancolle; WoW: Legion.

That's kinda BS. G/S are really good. No need to crap on them just because you like the remakes more.

HGSS are better being updated remakes but replaying the original G/S has made me remember how good they must have been for their time. People love to crap on them but i will always love the original gen 2. Especally since crystal got me into the pokemon series.

HG/SS are better but if you don't already have them, it's over $40 to get them used today.
So having the original on the VC is really cool.

Despite owning Soul Silver, I loaded up my GBC copy of Silver for s***s and giggles. I was very upset to find the battery died in it so I couldn't save my game.

I really really REALLY enjoyed playing through Blue last year, despite its limitations, damn those PC boxes suck.
I also didn't have to worry about the battery dying and losing my save while I was playing.
I'm gonna download Gold after I'm done with Metroid.

But both the originals and remakes have their place.
It definitely makes more sense to have say Blue and Fire Red instead of Heart Gold and Soul Silver. They really are different experiences.
Sometimes it's what you don't do that makes you who you are.

HG/SS are superior in almost every way.
I like HG/SS a lot but I love G/S/C. I realized that after playing Gold again. I just like how they look and sound so much more. Also, there's no Lyra. I really don't like having the opposite gender character that you don't pick being part of the story.

Not really. The original GS are unrealized potential more then anything. Like the ideas Gamefreak had were grand and amazing, but they really fell flat in executing them. The remakes do a lot to help fix this and are honestly held back by having to stay as true to originals as they do. Like Johto remains a super tiny region simply because they couldn't drastically alter the map from the original.
Not changing this sig until Capcom starts giving a damn about Mega Man again.

I disagree. G/S was a mixed bag of great ideas and kinda iffy ones, with is common for the second game in a franchise. The good ideas were well implemented, but like any idea, there was potential to add more to it. I think people that feel this way are looking at the games in comparison to modern releases.

And you come away disappointed?
Okay, can't say I understand that.
I didn't like how slow HG/SS play. It's a molasses slog. Still everything else is better.

"Let's add 100 new Pokemon! And than make most of the areas and trainers only use Pokemon from Gen. 1!"
"Let's have two regions and make each a fraction of the size of Gen 1's!"
"Let's bring back Kanto, but only as a hollow shell of it's former self!"
Etc.

So? Nothing wrong with gen 1 Pokemon returning.

That didn't really happen.

"Let's bring back Kanto"

The but it not really needed. Bring back the region from the last game is more than they need to do. Complaining about it just seem entitled.

But there's everything wrong with them making up the majority of the Pokemon you encounter. Why does Morty have two Haunters, but no Misdreavus. Why doesn't Bugsy use Spinarak, etc.

Yes, it did? Johto and Gen 2 Kanto are both tiny compared to Gen 1 Kanto with less to do and explore.

The addition of Kanto had a negative effect on the new region of Johto, resulting in it being the smallest region in the franchise. If Johto is gonna suffer for its inclusion, Kanto shouldbe good.

Not an issue as far as I'm concerned. I get to use them, so it's not a problem. I'd rather than than for the older ones to be largely abandoned, but I guess that can't be helped with the Pokemon count getting to absurd levels.

I haven't played the originals, but I have HG with me and seeing all the features HGSS has, I can't really see how the originals are better.
Still waiting for a good Mario Tennis and Paper Mario RPG, Camelot and Intelligent Systems. R.I.P. Miiverse 2012 - 2017.

Why is Johto the smallest region in the series then? Just laziness on GameFreak's part?

Crystal.
Mods are pathetic SJWs who abuse their administrative abilities and couldn't muster a logical defense for their actions to save their lives. Worthless.

Why does it matter? The game was more than long enough to be a full game in everyone else's eyes. It didn't even seem shorter than the first game, so I'm not seeing a valid reason to complain about Gen 2's main story.

I agree. The older versions have that tint that looks more mature. HGSS just look so cartoony and Platinumy. Could be nostalgia at play though.

On top of that they ruined a lot of music in the remakes, like Dark Cave and Lake of Rage.

Most people expect sequels to be bigger and better than their predecessors, not shorter and more lack luster.

How about it being shorter than the Gen. 1's? That thing you're in denial about? You need Gen 2's butchering of Kanto to make it compete with Gen 1 lengthwise and the fact adding a second region only makes it compete with the campaign of the first game is terrible.

The remakes no question. Only thing I prefer about the originals is being able to connect it to pokemon stadium 2, which the 3ds ports can't do anyway.

yeah G/S/C without stadium are kinda eh. Stadium was basically the post game for those games. the remakes at least stole plats frontier which serves stadiums purpose.

I'll readily admit that HgSs are better in just about every way but the VC release of GS has real value since your work in those games can transfer to Gen 7 and beyond. Some moves and abilities on certain Pokemon will be exclusively available from the original games on VC.

HG/SS has Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii.
I don't know. HGSS made me question my love of gen 2. I did not enjoy all that much.
