- So what is going to succeed the 3ds??
It's been around for a while now, and no mention of a next generation handheld yet. Will be another DS? A brand new identity? Are they going to just keep the 3ds model?...
I'm wondering what you guys think??

It would be pretty cool if the New Handheld was some type of "over the eye" peripheral like Google Glass. Whatever it is, the next hh needs to unique.
Hell, even if it's something like the Nintendo "Asswipe," where the player wipes to win, I'll be interested.

The 4DS, obviously.
In all seriousness though it depends on if Nintendo will end up considering the Switch the true successor to the 3DS or not. If not then I imagine they'll make another dedicated dual-screen handheld. |
Why would Nintendo waste time with a successor? Just keep re-releasing the same games that came out years ago, hell, even release the exact same system and people will buy another one. Nintendo's got the best scam going of all time.

Also, the Switch can do local wireless and comes with a charger. |
I really hope the next handheld keeps the 3d, but gives you the option of some kind of 3d viewer like samsung vr. It doesn't have to be 360 or support moving around, just put the screen filling our vision, and give it some quality better than 3ds, but still let us use the regular screens if we want to.

I may not like the Switch fanboys who scream for the death of the 3DS but you have to straight up delusional not to think the Switch is the system that will supplant it. The system was design to be a hybrid and use to combine both their console and handheld market together. It's not meant to be a dedicate console nor a dedicated handheld. It is both. Nintendo is only calling it a successor to the Wii U to give them an out if the Switch fails. Thus far it's doing a lot better than even Nintendo expected. This is virtually the DS/GBA situation in more recent times. If the DS had flopped they would had release a next gen Gameboy. If the Switch ended up flopping they would release a next gen DS."Your arms are too short to box with God!"An otter on a Ferris wheel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZUi9xKY8X8

2. When did I ever argue that? I'm not talking about sega or sony. What I'm saying is it would be dumb for nintendo to backstep after all these improvements. Especially after two hardware generations.

5. Which is one reason why I don't like ps4. And again, nobody is talking about sony here. All nintendo handhelds have had some degree of backwards compatibility, even when consoles haven't. Failed consoles are normally the exception to this norm. Dreamcast actually got licensed third-party titles up until 2006, yet was discontinued in early 2001.
As for the DS, it's over twice as successful as the 3DS, of course it's expected to have a longer life. However, I can't think of anything that's not DSI ware after 2012, eight years after the consoles life. The end of 2018, where a lot of people believe to be the end of the consoles first party support, is also almost eight years of life. 3DS simply already had a pretty long life.
Also, DSi was only discontinued fairly recently.Gargomon251 posted...

and seacliff is right, no one is making it a conspiracy but history shows Nintendo says a lotta bulls***. Hell, the NoJ was quoted as saying the switch wasn't a Wii U replacement a year before its release. So saying s*** like nintendo explicitly said blah blah blah shouldn't be taken w/ much stock. This is the same company/PR that tried to justify the moronic chat app, said the NES classic last year would be in constant production before ultimately killing it, and tons of other PR. They're covering their asses. No more, no less. I'm very calm actually. I don't get angry over video games.
1. Maybe so but you can still bring a Switch with you.
2. You made it sound like a handheld can't be one screen in your post. I just showed you examples of the contrary. As I said before I actually prefer the dual screen but that is irrelevant to the Switch being part handheld.
4. I don't really see any adult playing their 3DS at the grocery either. I do see people on their laptop on the plane, cafe, or a fast food restaurant.
5. Be that as it may that doesn't stop Nintendo from changing things up. Nintendo called it a Wii U successor yet it clearly can't play any disc. It can't play the 3DS cartridge mainly because it's different and doesn't have the dual screen for both tv and handheld mode.
6. It's not really a conspiracy it just makes good business sense to not put all their eggs in one basket for a new system that has yet to prove itself. The last thing you want to do in business is make yourself look weak. If they have declare the system was the successor to the 3DS as well outright and it fails they screw themselves over. They lose a chance to make another additional 10+ million from the 3DS they sell plus they don't have a way out. New Super Mario Bros. went from handheld to consoles with its second entry. Mainline Pokemon hasn't come to console in over 20 years. Apples and oranges. Not changing this sig until Capcom starts giving a damn about Mega Man again.supremeblaster posted...sanjeust posted...

The Switch is the successor of the Wii U, not the 3DS.
I don't know why that's so hard for people to figure out.
That's why it's getting the next big SMT.
That's why it's getting the next Layton
That's why it's getting a game from the BD developers.
That's why it's getting mainline Pokemon.
Get a grip.
I believe Nintendo will launch a Switch Mini. Smaller, with a smaller screen, improved battery life, a charger and the possibility to connect directly into the charger. And the same games, and local two player functionality.
You can't have it be smaller and also improve the battery. The battery is already taking up 50% of the current Switch. You'd have to outright remove integral hardware to increase the battery.
Or put a smaller and less powerful screen, among other downgrades."I'm confident that, if there's a real problem [with climate change], He [God] can take care of it." - Michigan Republican congressman Tim Walberg LOL- Boards
- Nintendo 3DS
- So what is going to succeed the 3ds??
