For someone that hasn't bought the amiibo for any other game and is just wanting to get them for this game alone, that would mean that the retail price to cough up for Music, Gallery, and Hard Mode DLC would be... $54. $54 USD for Music, Gallery, and Fusion/Hard Mode.

Really this is what irks me. If I wanted to pay that much money for Gallery pictures I want a physical art book to look at that details the history, mythology, and biology of the Metroid universe. Same with the music. The game is already bundled with a select Metroid music soundtrack. When amiibo's were first released I preordered the Samus Smash amiibo. It is still in the package since there was no use to use it out side of Smash 4. I will not take it out of the package to use for Samus Returns (mainly because I want to keep it for collector purposes). Amiibos really are an impractical accessory for gaming. bungiefan posted...
The community already has a solution to create their own Amiibo out of the standard NFC tags Nintendo uses in them, which you can get several tags per dollar. You can now create them with just blank tags and the 3DS itself. Saves with the content unlocked can also be decrypted and shared. That solution will persist.
Wasn't Nintendo going to release official amiibo cards for people who did not want to buy the figurines?

This is also an issue. That's why I put in the time to get the FE: Fates LE cart. Someday that third path will be DLC that is no longer purchaseable. Nintendo has started making its games into popcorn consumables, where it used to be that the value of the games was that they were timeless.

Almost 23 years ago now, I walked into a Funcoland to do my usual browsing, and I have good hearing... It's a curse sometimes. Anyway, across the store there is a salesman hassling this woman who obviously was there buying stuff for the kids, trying to insist she needs an official Gameboy Cleaning Kit. I was listening of course and she didn't want to buy it it. This went on for quite a while... When the guy finally said "Nintendo says it's not safe to clean the games with alcohol" I couldn't take it anymore... I walked over and said "excuse me but I overheard your conversation, if you look at the ingredients the cleaning solution is 75% isopropyl alcohol. I got thrown out of the store. I don't think she bought the kit.

Welp... if Fusion mode ends up being an Amiibo exclusive it looks like I'll end up learning how to "make" my own, cause I'm sure as hell not spending money on that shit ('that' being Amiibos in case it wasn't clear).

If there's evidence of what, exactly Fusion mode is, I'd love to see it. So far, it's just a name, and on that basis alone people are assuming a whole mode is locked away. That's the key word here, assuming. Until we have more information, it's dumb to get out the pitchforks and torches.

That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. The game itself is not at fault and is functionally complete. It is the amiibo locked content (ALC) that is the problem. Killing off an entire franchise will not stop Nintendo from what it is doing. If people quite buying amiibos this ALC would end when it stops being profitable for Nintendo.

If Nintendo want my money, give me a complete game. If not I won't buy their products. That simple. I already don't buy any games from EA, Ubisoft, and Activision because of their business practices so not buying a Metroid game isn't that big a deal to me. I realize that Nintendo is just making money since people are stupid enough to buy Amiibos, but I won't support a game that isn't complete due to Amiibos (or other shitty dlc practices). If it means we lose a franchise oh well. Nintendo barely even cares about Metroid anyway.

How do you know?
Not to answer a question with a question, but how do you know this game will not be functionally complete with the ALC? At what point will we the player be forced to use amiibo's to continue playing? Fusion difficulty is the only thing I will be missing out on (I am boycotting the amiibo's if anyone is curious). To address that, the Metroid series always had a built in "make it as difficult as you want" aspect. To easy? Just ignore missile/health upgrades. Try to get through as fast as possible as weak as possible.

Whether we like it or not, companies exist to make money. So if they see an opportunity to do so, they will. Sometimes even at the expense of the long-term success of a series/product. If people didn't gobble up Amiibos, maybe we wouldn't have to deal with this kind of stuff.

I feel it should also be pointed out that the amiibos also aren't sold separately--ONLY as a bundle. So you can't say "Okay, Fusion suit mode for $13, that's worth it to me." Nope, you gotta buy BOTH amiibos, like it or not. So, entire mode gated, and Nintendo doubled down on what you have to buy to unlock it. At this point, to get the full game they are asking you to spend around $65. And, can we point out that this is a REMAKE? Sorry, that is super scummy.

Splatoon, Fire Emblem Fates, Mario Party 10, and the abysmal reception of Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival weren't ALREADY good enough signs for them to say "Yeah we should probably stop doing that?" And they can't even do good with following up on later releases, either. Roy's amiibo came out right on the cusp of Fates' release, yet he got no functionality even though the DLC for Fates was still coming out at the time. And Corrin? His amiibo does nothing and he's the STAR of the damn game. If they could make an amiibo update for Animal Crossing New Leaf FOUR YEARS after its initial launch, why couldn't they get IS together for a couple weeks to make something for Corrin and Roy in less than half that time?

I wouldn't call it piracy. And you actually don't need a phone for the latest methods. It can all be done entirely on the 3DS itself. NFC tags aren't anything proprietary or special, and you can burn any ID you want to a tag. Knowing the ID to burn for an Amiibo isn't any different than knowing the password to your computer or a password in a videogame. You can't exactly copyright a password, so it isn't piracy. The unlocked data is in the game cartridge, not on the Amiibo, and duplicating house keys is not a crime. They are just a password you don't have to type in, you just scan a code, and work just like old games with passwords.

I wonder how many people actually buy amiibos for the ALC functionality? I only bought my Samus Smash amiibo strictly as a collector item to look at and not to use (not that it did have any use at the time). Nintendo probably doesn't even consider that the end consumer may not be using their product for its intended purpose.

If that were the case then Nintendo wouldn't need to lock content behind them because people would buy regardless of extra features. Nintendo is just getting greedy and trying to expand the Amiibo market even further. They could easily just leave it as a glorified collectible and still make a shit ton of money of them.

If there is no other way to get the stuff like gallery or sound test, or if the fusion suit is actual hard mode, they screwed up. As and owner of regular 3DS there is zero chance I'd buy a $20 hunk of plastic to then buy a $13 figurine to get the damn thing working. Its less of an issue if they didn't keep creating new Amiibo for every damn game, then not supporting them anywhere else. But if the do they also support the alternate as something different so for some reason you now need both. Though 3DS is a worse offender because some of us can't even use the Amiibo content without throwing down $20 on top of them.
Actually, the amiibo dual pack being released with/for the game is THIRTY DOLLARS. The alm and celica dual pack was 23-25 I think but nintendo probably figured 'why not ramp the retail prices juuust a little bit higher?', just look at the fools online who are willing to sped 50+ bucks for just 1 amiibo!

Just because they starved us on Metroid for so long they assume we'll gobble up anything now and allow them to get away with amiibos holding hostage the most standard and staple content. And the worst thing is they're probably right..

If Nintendo is going to lock away significant content behind underproduced amiibos, they need to at least allow you to buy the same content digitally in-game.

Or just, you know, unlock it. Like they used to do in their games. I mean seriously, a sound test and art gallery? Sound tests aren't particularly common anymore because plenty of devs will just outright include physical or digital soundtracks as extras with collectors editions, but an ART GALLERY? As in, not an art book in the same vein as the soundtracks I just mentioned, but in-game galleries? Where has there been DLC of an art gallery ANYWHERE in the industry? Legitimate question, someone point this out to me if it's happened, because I don't think it ever has.
