there’s no way to hear in-game audio from your Switch through your smart device. This is an issue, of course, because your smart phone is where you’ll do your voice chatting while you’re playing multiplayer games. As it stands, the only work around for this is a rather bulky headset developed by HORI, which plugs into both your Switch and your smart device at the same time. The next mind-boggling limitation of the Switch online app is the fact that the app must remain open at all times while you’re chatting to your friends. If you switch to another app or (presumably) shut off your phone’s screen, you’ll exit the voice chat you’re currently in and you won’t re-enter until you open the app again. e:ra

At the very least, they have to fix that last bit, where it kicks you out if your phone's screen is turned off. As it is, I'm going to be using my phone for the app + as a mobile hotspot to play in the first place, I don't need the screen drawing extra power.
Not changing this sig until Another Code R (Wii) is announced for the US.

How many apps continue giving you 100% functionality when the phone is put to sleep(the screen turning off is part of that mode)?
It's geeks who really make or break a TV show or movie or videogame.

Welp, I'm less interested in Switch knowing they're making this a paid-for service. I'm not gonna buy a system just for BotW and Oddysey and other single player things. This kind of Online makes it sound like a worse experience than 3DS which, despite having a System-Friend-Code at least had all functionality within itself and it was easy to set up and get going. I can't imagine playing a Monster Hunter game on Switch the way I did on 3DS as easily.
Boycott "Games as a Service". Stop paying for microtransactions and obvious bait-and-switch DLC.

The micro management of the wires, phone headphones and what not look like a complete chore to try and figure out. TB posted a picture of his set up on twitter.

No one cares about "100% functionality" that you brought up When the phone is put to sleep, which is what the Nintendo Switch Online app can't do.

We all know that the app will receive some criticisms from gaming press, will probably receive a couple patches down the line and Nintendo fans will just get used to it like they do to everything else that Nintendo releases that falls short of the level of quality of its competitors. |

Right. We should let Nintendo know what we're upset about and what we might prefer, but I think people have been making a waaaaay bigger deal out of this than it really is. And I think there's a lot of tension with the Switch that every little idiosyncrasy about it gets blown out of proportion. The Nintendo fans want the Switch to finally be the response to Sony & Microsoft they believe Nintendo needs to make and so they're scared about anything that suggests it might be another Wii U or that it's not the "hardcore gaymer" console they want it to be. And the people who hate Nintendo want to find any excuse to believe that Nintendo is the worst of the three gaming companies, no matter how pedantic it makes them look to fixate on just this one minor problem. And so what would otherwise be smaller discussions and debates turn into huge controversies. |

I would think Nintendo's idea here is to make it so cumbersome that no child actually tries to use it. Then when Hardcore gamers are there to complain they say see you can do it. Though to be honest they receive the same amounts of complaints about this method than not doing it at all. Plus this method doesn't look good when they are trying to charge you for Online all of a sudden.
