- Is pokemon gold and sliver better than hearth gold and soul sliver ?

No way in hell, the remakes are a million billion times better. This is coming from somebody who grew up on gen 2. This is the only acceptable answer outside of the obvious No.

To anyone who thinks the original games are better than the remakes, I'm curious about what makes them better to you (besides nostalgia or how the remakes are so expensive now).
The only thing I miss from the originals are the room decorations (and most of them were only gotten by using infrared), but it doesn't seem like something many people besides me would care about anyway. |
I started to play the series with pokemon blue. I've spent my childhood with B/R/Y and G/S/C. HG/SS are enhanced versions of G/S with the same story, improved graphic and additional content. Buying G/S now is about nostalgia (that's my case) or collectionism. Also, we suspect that shiny HA ho-oh and Lugia will become available (not officially confirmed and I have my doubts)

G/S had mostly better music, a far better Day/Night palette, a neat little feature where headbutt trees would sometimes spawn sleeping pokemon, and the superior Game Corner. HG/SS does pretty much everything else better, including expanding upon areas that had to be removed in Kanto due to technical limitations at the time.

HeartGold and SoulSilver are much, much better games in their own right but that isn't to say Gold or Silver isn't worth your time especially on the virtual console considering how cheap the games will be. I will admit there is a weird sort of ambiance the original games had that the remakes don't quite replicate but I think that's because of the 4 bit sound font and monochrome screen of the gameboy.

I enjoyed the music and the graphics of the originals, hg/ss obviously have higher quality graphics but the originals had this odd creepy tone to the game which I can't describe. Yes, there's a pleasantly sad atmosphere to the original game. Kind of a "summer is ending" melancholic tone. HG/SS doesn't have this feel to it, at least not as vividly.
Everything will be fire.

I completely agree. HGSS are better games but I just love the art style/graphics and music of the originals. It could be nostalgia and you're right about it having a somehow soothing yet sad feel. |
My cartridge batteries have been long time dead and when I had to move to another state w/ my parents for a job thing for my dad I made a good friend and we would hang out and play a lot of Pokémon gen 2. He even bought me Pokémon Stadium 2 and the strategy guide for my birthday the following year since we were only in AZ for about 10 months. I expect Crystal to be released at some point since it was real easy to get a shiny pokémon from the daycare egg you get for free.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. HG/SS may have more strengths if we're being honest, but there are still aspects of the originals that make them worthwhile as well.

The reasons the remakes are better:
1. Kanto areas that were removed from the original games (due to memory limiations) are brought back. 2. Catching Ho-oh and Lugia is much less annoying. 3. They have all the improvements of Pokemon Crystal built in. 4. You fight Eusine more than once, which makes catching Suicune all the more satisfying. 5. The ability to catch Pokemon from Gen. 3 and 4, including legendaries. HOWEVER, the gameplay is faster in the originals, and the day and night palettes are better. Finally, 8-bit graphics are nostalgic for a lot of people, and nostalgia is a powerful thing.
With great responsibility comes great power.
