- Over 5 months after launch, where's the Virtual Console?
The Wii came out over a decade ago and had a better VC library 5 months after launch than the Switch has now. What is Nintendo's justification for this? When will we hear news regarding this?
Pokemon Gold/Silver is coming to the 3DS VC next month. Why not the Switch as well?

I'm operating under the assumption that the Switch was released six months earlier than Nintendo wanted (based on major release dates, shortages, and lack of standard features like a browser), so it's not really surprising that the VC isn't here yet. Early next year is my guess as to when there will be a solid library.

September 29, in the form of a mini SNES. This likely played in to it. However I must say, the Switch is just BEGGING for a virtual console. Those joycons are practically SNES controllers. This is the first hardware from Nintendo that I would actually want to build a retro library on.

You're operating under the wrong assumption then, because I'm 100% certain that each and every single one of those issues still would've been there if it had launched 6 months later. Besides that, it already is nearly half a year after launch and Nintendo's system software and nearly everything related to it is still as bad as when the system launched. Anyway, the VC's been delayed because Nintendo had no intention of giving anyone the right to play the VC games for free before they're launching their paid online service.

i actually was hoping for a VC, yet i never actually read any confirmation, nor announcements that it was going to be a thing. we should stop expecting all the systems to have everything the previous had, i mean it doesnt have a screen on the pro controller or a second screen, neither it has nexflix or youtube, where does it actually say that there will be a VC?

You do realize their first E3 had only 4 Switch games announced? Kirby, Yoshi, Metroid Prime, and Pokemon. I really doubt both Metroid or Pokemon is coming next year.

What a pity. As for @supertecmobowl, Nintendo has stated that they've only released the tip of the iceberg. There'll definitely be more games coming from them and third-party developers. The "drought" will not exist.

Developers didn't even get the dev kits until a few months before launch from what I remember. |

Seems like a good reason to rush a console: a massive game in a popular series on the tail end of the previous console's life being brought to the newer console. Sound familiar?

Q: Is the "Classic Game Selection (temp. name)" different from the Virtual Console (VC)? It says right there that VC games on Switch haven't been announced. It also clearly states that "Classic Game Selection (temp. name)" isn't VC. It literally says Nintendo has said nothing about VC and that it may not even be coming because they haven't announced anything. TBA doesn't mean it will be announced just that they thought about it because they were asked. |

Yet nobody doubts that Fire Emblem will be out in 2018 when we know just as little about it? Why can't Metroid and Pokémon be announced in June 2017 and be out by the end of 2018... Yet Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can be announced in January 2017 and released later the same year?

There's no real excuse from Nintendo not to have some sort of VC available by now with your previous purchases transferable. Free Switch ports? Nobody does free ports, thats not how it works, comanies don't give away things they spent money on for free. There's no excuse for these kind of ignorant requests. But, yeah, Nintendo doesn't want my money... dumb. |

Early next year is my guess as to when there will be a solid library. Probably this. The timetable for the online service also matches this. faramir77 posted... Why didn't it take time in 2006? One thing to consider here is that in 2006, the Virtual Console was Nintendo's flagship online store on Wii. WiiWare didn't exist until 2008 so until then the Virtual Console was Nintendo's main online revenue source on the Wii. Switch, however, has the eShop, so a Virtual Console range is a much lower priority. gafemaqs posted... So then it begs the question: why did Nintendo release the Switch if they clearly weren't prepared. They didn't have a choice. The Wii U sold poorly for years and then died. They'd probably have released the Switch in late 2016 if it was at all possible, and it's easy to imagine March 2017 being picked so that Switch would release before Nintendo's fiscal year ended. |
